Zambia U-20 Defender Hamansenya Seals Dream Move to Spanish Side Leganés

Zambia Under-20 Men’s National Team defender David Hamansenya has signed a long-term professional contract with Spanish Segunda División side CD Leganés, in a deal that runs until 2029.

The 18-year-old left-back, who honed his skills at Shamuel Soccer Academy, has steadily risen through Zambia’s youth national team ranks, featuring for the U-15, U-17, and U-20 sides. Earlier this year, he was a key part of the Zambia U-20 squad at the Egypt 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he started every match.

Hamansenya also earned an early senior national team call-up under former Chipolopolo coach Wedson Nyirenda during the CHAN preparations, though he did not feature after the tournament was postponed. He has since been included in the latest Zambia national team call-up list.

Speaking after signing his first professional contract, Hamansenya described the move as a dream come true.

“I am very happy and this is a dream come true for me. I have waited for this moment and I am really excited to finally sign my professional contract. I want to thank Evans Kangwa, owner of Shamuel Academy, and my agent Nir Karin who have both helped and guided me through this journey. I will forever be grateful to them, and to the entire Shamuel family – thank you for everything, you are forever in my heart,” he said.

According to the Leganés club statement, Hamansenya trained with the first team during preseason camps in Mexico and the United States, impressing the technical bench before securing the deal. The Spanish side officially welcomed him as a new “pepinero,” expressing confidence in his future.
