Zambia Gears Up for Battle as Africa’s Best Set to Clash at Mauritius Rugby Sevens 2025

The stage is set for one of Africa’s most thrilling rugby showpieces, the 2025 Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens Cup, taking place at the Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mauritius on 21 and 22 June 2025. Among the contenders, Zambia Rugby 7s is flying the nation’s flag high, ready to compete in a tournament built on the pillars of excellence, inclusivity, integrity, and community.

The Zambia Rugby Union announced with pride the unveiling of the team’s new official kit, a bold emblem of pride, unity, and ambition. The squad jetted off this morning en route to Mauritius via South Africa, while UK-based players Israel Kalumba, Arun Watkins, and David Chimbukulu are set to join the team directly from the United Kingdom.

In a post titled “Let the hunt begin”, the Union expressed gratitude to sponsors and partners for their steadfast support, which continues to power the team’s aspirations on the continental stage.

The Rugby Africa Sevens Cup will see three highly competitive pools, with Zambia drawn into Pool B, where they will face the tournament favourites South Africa, Burkina Faso, and Nigeria. Pool A houses the defending champions Uganda, Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana. Finally, Pool C include the hosts Mauritius, Tunisia, Madagascar and Zimbabwe.

With an exciting mix of homegrown talent and international experience, Zambia heads into this tournament with determination and purpose.
