We are not a top team – Grant

Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant says Zambia must accept they are not yet among Africa’s top teams, but stressed the squad is steadily improving despite losing 2-0 to Morocco in Sunday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier in Ndola.

Speaking after the match, Grant said his players showed character but were undone by two costly errors.

“We are not one of the top teams in Africa, like we want to be, but we are on the way to being there,” he said. “Morocco are number 24 in the world and one of the top sides in Africa, yet today we were better in many moments.”

The Israeli tactician praised the emergence of young Zambian players based in Europe, noting their development would be crucial for the future.

“We cannot just press a button and qualify for the World Cup, but we are building,” Grant said.

Zambia will complete their Group E campaign next month against Niger and Tanzania.
