Warriors Fall to Zanaco, Coach Eyes Work in Front of Goal

Kabwe Warriors head coach George Chilufya says his team must sharpen their scoring touch as they prepare for their next MTN Super League fixture against Konkola Blades.

Warriors suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday, going down 3-2 to Zanaco at Sunset Stadium. The loss was also the first time Chilufya’s men conceded in the league this campaign, leaving them seventh on nine points. The result lifted Zanaco to the summit with 12 points, maintaining their unbeaten run.

The visitors initially went ahead after Zanaco defender Fredrick Mwimanzi scored into his own net, but the Bankers roared back through a brace from Eliya Mandanji and a strike from Dalitso Phiri. Simon Tonga pulled one back for Warriors in the 81st minute, but it was not enough to salvage a point.

Speaking after the match, Chilufya acknowledged his side’s shortcomings but praised their resilience.

“I think the boys showed character today. We led but again we lost concentration towards the end of the first half. We came back again, we conceded and that’s where everything changed,” Chilufya said.

He admitted that the quick goals disrupted their rhythm.

“We couldn’t settle early in the second half like we did in the first half. So those two goals I think disturbed our game plan. But again like I always say, it’s work in progress. We’ve been scoring one goal, now today we got two. So we just need to build on that one.”

Looking ahead, Chilufya underlined the need for sharper attacking play.

“It even gives us the kind of training that we should concentrate on before we play our next game. So we go back again and work in front of goal and see how best we can manage it.”

He added that the Warriors will give Konkola Blades the respect they deserve.

“Every team in the Premier League is competitive and Konkola has been around for some time. We just need to prepare well for them.”
