Super Falcons Eye Team Cohesion Ahead of Cameroon Clash

Nigeria’s women’s national team, the Super Falcons, are set to return to action for the first time since their 2-1 loss to France in November 2024, with a two-legged tie against Cameroon kicking off this Saturday, May 31.
The matches mark the beginning of a crucial phase of preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), and according to team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, the main focus is not just on winning, but on strengthening team cohesion.
“Right now, it’s just a training camp, so it’s basically for us to build the team, just to know who we have in the squad,” said Ajibade. “But the most important thing is to build the team and make sure that we are preparing ahead of the tournament.”
The squad features several new faces who will be eager to impress newly appointed head coach Justin Madugu as he begins shaping his vision for the team.
The Super Falcons will face Cameroon again just three days after their first encounter, giving the technical team ample opportunity to assess player performance and team chemistry in competitive settings.
Following the double-header against Cameroon, Nigeria will take on Portugal in June, their final fixture before heading into WAFCON 2024, where they’ll aim to reclaim continental dominance.
