Ruud van Nistelrooy Backs Patson Daka to Lead Leicester City’s Championship Comeback

Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has confirmed his confidence in Zambian striker Patson Daka, naming him as a key figure in the club’s bid to return to the Premier League in the 2026/27 season.
Speaking ahead of the club’s pre-season preparations, the Dutch football legend made it clear that Daka will play a central role in Leicester’s Championship campaign, describing him as a potential “main man” to lead the Foxes’ front line in the post-Jamie Vardy era.
“He can be the main man next season,” Van Nistelrooy said, as reported by Leicester Xtra on X. “But it’s a post-Jamie Vardy era and there will be opportunities for others. It’s up to them to take it.”
The departure of veteran striker Jamie Vardy has left a significant void at the King Power Stadium. However, Van Nistelrooy is confident that the current squad, including Daka, has what it takes to step up.
“The gap Jamie left is there for any player to fill, but I believe in the players we have,” he added. “Our plans for the upcoming season are in full swing. We already know who will be leaving, and Patson is not among them.”
Daka, who has shown glimpses of his scoring prowess since joining Leicester from Red Bull Salzburg, now has the full backing of his manager and a golden opportunity to spearhead the club’s revival.
With Van Nistelrooy’s trust and a clear path to lead the attack, the stage is set for the 26-year-old Copper Bullets star to shine and help guide the Foxes back to top-flight football.
