Racha Kola Bids Emotional Farewell After 22-Year Career with Zanaco FC

Zanaco Football Club’s legendary goalkeeper, Racha Kola, officially hung up his gloves on Saturday, drawing the curtain on an illustrious 22-year career. The 37-year-old was on the bench in his final professional match in Zanaco’s 1-0 defeat to Red Arrows at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
Kola’s retirement marks the end of an era for both club and country. Having joined the Young Zanaco ranks in 2003, he swiftly rose to the senior team within the same year, and over the next two decades, established himself as the heart of the Bankers’ defense and a symbol of consistency, loyalty, and excellence.
The veteran shot-stopper retires as Zanaco FC’s most decorated player, with a remarkable 12 major trophies to his name:
- 6 MTN Super League titles (2003, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2016)
- 1 Coca-Cola Cup (2004)
- 3 Charity Shields (2003, 2006, 2019)
- 1 Barclays Cup (2017)
- 1 BP Top 8 Cup (2006)
Kola’s career has been defined by more than just silverware. His leadership on and off the pitch earned him admiration from teammates, coaches, and fans alike. Known for his composure, reflexes, and professionalism, Kola was more than just a goalkeeper — he was a guardian of Zanaco’s legacy.
As he steps away from active play, Kola has expressed his intention to continue contributing to the game by mentoring young goalkeepers.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Kola reflected on his journey:
“From the first kick to the present moment in 2025, my journey in football has been more than just a game, it’s been a life lived through sweat, sacrifice, and silent victories. Every step, every setback, and every success has shaped not just the player I’ve become, but the person I am today. It’s been a road of passion, persistence, and purpose.”
As Zanaco begins to chart a new path without its long-serving icon, the legacy of Racha Kola will remain etched in the club’s history — a true servant of the game, a champion, and an inspiration to future generations.
