Nanyangwe: Copper Queens Hungry for Gold at WAFCON 2024

As the countdown to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) intensifies, Copper Queens striker Natasha Nanyangwe has expressed confidence in Zambia’s preparations and unity, setting the tone for a focused and determined campaign in Morocco.
Speaking after a high-energy training session, Nanyangwe described the mood in camp as “great,” with every player “putting in effort and training hard.” She noted that from the way things are shaping up, “everyone is ready for the tournament.”
“There’s a lot of excitement and positive energy. Everyone is happy to be in camp and eager for the tournament to start,” she said. “We can’t wait for the first game.”
Nanyangwe, who is hoping to get more minutes on the pitch this time around, is also eyeing a bigger contribution as Zambia targets a historic run. “I’m looking forward to playing and helping my team get to the next rounds,” she said.
Reflecting on Zambia’s third-place finish at the previous edition, Nanyangwe said that while it was a proud achievement, the bar is now set higher. “It felt great finishing third, but this time our target is to win the tournament and go back with gold medals,” she declared.
However, the journey won’t be easy. Zambia is drawn in a tough group, a challenge Nanyangwe doesn’t underestimate. “It’s not an easy group. It’s very tough and there are no underdogs,” she warned. “We’ll take each and every game as it comes because every game is important.”
With the team united and ambitions clear, Nanyangwe called on Zambians to continue rallying behind the Copper Queens. “Your support means everything to us. Please keep supporting us, we feel the love and it pushes us to give our best.”
