Mweemba Congratulates Zambia U20 Teams On COSAFA Semifinal Berths

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has lauded the Zambia Under-20 men’s and women’s national football teams for securing spots in the semifinals of the ongoing Region 5 Games in Windhoek, Namibia.

FAZ President Keith Mweemba praised the young sides for their strong performances and urged them to keep their eyes on the ultimate goal, clinching the titles and qualifying for the FIFA World Cup.

“On behalf of my executive committee and the entire football family, I wish to congratulate our two teams at the ongoing COSAFA tournament on qualifying to the semifinals. We are proud of the progress made so far, but the job is not yet done,” said Mweemba.

He emphasized the need for both teams to remain focused and hungry, highlighting the greater ambition of World Cup qualification.

“We want the teams to remain hungry for success as they have the bigger target of representing us at the FIFA World Cup in a few months.”

The young Copper Queens, who are the defending champions, will face Botswana in a crucial semifinal clash as they aim to retain their crown. On the men’s side, Zambia’s Under-17 squad, being fielded in the U20 slot as part of their World Cup preparations, will take on Malawi.

FAZ has also called on fans across the country to throw their support behind the junior teams, noting that they represent the future of Zambian football.

The Region 5 Games continue in Windhoek with Zambia eyeing further glory on both fronts.
