Mwanza: Chipolopolo Will Be Ready for CHAN Group A Battle

Zambia midfielder Kelvin Mwanza has expressed confidence in the team’s readiness ahead of the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), as Chipolopolo braces for a tough Group A campaign.

Drawn alongside hosts Kenya, African giants Morocco, Angola, and DR Congo, Zambia faces a challenging path to CHAN glory. The team kicks off its tournament on August 7 at 15:00 hours with a clash against DR Congo.

Despite the tough opposition, Mwanza believes Zambia has prepared well and will rise to the occasion.

“The preparations are going on so well. Everyone is pushing and we all know what is ahead of us,” said Mwanza during a training camp interview with FAZ Media. “There’s no easy game, but what matters is how we prepare here. And looking at how we’ve prepared, I think we are good to go.”

Mwanza, one of the younger players in the squad, is drawing inspiration from the veterans in camp.

“We do have senior players here who’ve been with the main team for a while now. I’m personally learning something from them, and I think that’s what’s keeping me going.”

He also called on fans to rally behind the team as they aim to make a strong impression in East Africa.

“They have to be patient with us. We are going to do our level best.”

The 2024 CHAN tournament will run from August 2 to 30, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, with Zambia eyeing a deep run in the competition.
