Muzala Samukonga Lines Up for Diamond League Glory in Zurich Today

Zambia’s top sprinter, Muzala Samukonga (23), booked his place in the 2025 Wanda Diamond League Final, set for 27–28 August in Zurich, Switzerland.
Samukonga secured qualification after finishing fifth in the men’s 400m race in Brussels, Belgium, clocking an impressive 44.91 seconds. The race was won by American Jacory Patterson (44.05), with fellow countryman Vernon Norwood second (44.62) and Charles Dobson taking third (44.81). Belgium’s Daniel Segers narrowly edged out Samukonga for fourth place by just one-hundredth of a second (44.90).
Despite missing out on the podium, Samukonga’s time was enough to confirm his spot in Zurich, where 32 season champions will be crowned across two days of thrilling athletics action. The competition begins on Wednesday, 27 August with the women’s pole vault and concludes on Thursday, 28 August with the men’s 200m.
Samukonga will line up in the men’s 400m final on Thursday, 28 August at 18:42 CAT, carrying Zambia’s hopes on his shoulders. The Zurich showdown also serves as his final tune-up ahead of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
