Motau Confident Three-Nation Series Will Boost Banyana’s WAFCON Preparations

Banyana Banyana midfielder Amogelang Motau believes the team’s participation in the upcoming Three-Nation series against Botswana and Zambia will play a crucial role in strengthening their preparation for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Speaking to SABC Sport, Motau expressed confidence in the squad’s consistent efforts to build cohesion and test new tactics during each international window.
“I think for now it’s been good,” said Motau. “We’ve been using every FIFA break to come together, get into camp, introduce new players, and try new formations.”
She emphasized the importance of blending emerging talent with experienced players to build strong team chemistry, particularly as the squad evolves during this transitional phase.
“Ba is in a transitional period, so it’s very important for us to take the new girls coming into the team and make sure we have chemistry with the ones who’ve been here much longer,” she explained.
With Banyana Banyana aiming to defend their continental crown later this year, Motau is optimistic that the Three-Nation series will help solidify the team’s readiness.
“We’ve had opportunities to prepare and have been in camp every FIFA break,” she added. “So, I think it will put us in a good place to prepare for the tournament.”
