Kundanaji Eyes Glory at WAFCON 2024: “We’re Ready to Lift Zambia High!”

As the Copper Queens gear up for their opening match against hosts Morocco at the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2024, Zambian forward Racheal Kundanaji is brimming with optimism, motivation, and pride.

In an interview with FAZ media ahead of the tournament, Kundanaji expressed gratitude for the encouragement she’s received from fellow African star Tabitha Chawinga, hailing her support as both inspiring and personal.

“It’s so beautiful, you know,” said Kundanaji with a smile. “I was joking with her saying, ‘You do betray us,’ but she’s my friend even outside of football. She’s been motivating me, telling me to give our best and make sure we give every team a tough game. That’s so awesome.”

On Zambia’s group, which includes Morocco, DR Congo, and Senegal, Kundanaji acknowledges the challenge ahead but remains focused on progression.

“The group is tough as always. All we need is concentration and commitment. First, we have to cross the group stage, then take each step as it comes. Our first step is Morocco, and we’ll take it with courage and our best performance.”

Returning to the WAFCON stage for the second time, Kundanaji reflected on how much she has grown since her debut appearance at the tournament in 2018.

“That was my first major tournament,” she recalled. “Now, I’ve gained more experience from other international competitions. This time will be more special. We are ready to represent Zambia and lift the flag high.”

Her final message was a passionate call for national support:

“All we need is your support. Be there for us, cheer for us. Let’s go!”

The Copper Queens begin their WAFCON 2024 campaign on Saturday, July 5th, against Morocco.
