Katongo: Copper Queens Focused and Fired Up for Three-Nations Challenge

Copper Queens midfielder Evarine Susan Katongo has expressed confidence and determination following the team’s first training session ahead of the Three-Nations Challenge taking place at Clapham High School in Queenswood, Pretoria.
Speaking after the session, Katongo said the team is showing strong commitment and unity as they gear up to face Botswana and South Africa in a series of friendly matches.
“The training went on very well. Everyone was putting in a lot of effort and showing that we want to win these games,” Katongo said. “It was a tough session with a lot of competition among us, but that’s what made it great.”
The Zambian squad is in full strength, with both local and international players present in camp. Katongo noted that training alongside foreign-based players has lifted the team’s spirit.
“It feels good. Having the professionals here gives us more confidence and motivation, especially for us local players. It’s really a morale booster,” she said.
Looking ahead to Friday’s encounter against Botswana, Katongo emphasized that the team’s focus is not just on winning the friendlies, but also on preparing for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
“These games are part of our preparation. WAFCON won’t be an easy tournament. Playing against Botswana and South Africa will give us a good idea of what to expect and help us identify areas we need to improve before the tournament,” she explained.
The Copper Queens are using the Three-Nations Challenge as a crucial build-up to their continental campaign, aiming to sharpen their tactics and correct mistakes before heading to WAFCON.
