Ireen Lungu Eyes Strong Start as She Prepares for Third WAFCON Outing

Copper Queens midfielder Ireen Lungu has expressed her determination to help Zambia make a strong impression at the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2024, which kicks off on July 5, 2025.

Speaking to FAZ Media following a high-energy training session in Mohammédia, Lungu, who is set to feature in her third WAFCON tournament, shared her confidence in the team’s readiness and spirit ahead of their opening Group A clash against hosts Morocco.

“The training session was good, and everyone is looking very sharp,” she said. “From how we’ve trained, it’s clear that everyone is ready for the game.”

Lungu, a key figure in the Zambian midfield, emphasized the importance of starting strong in what she described as a “very tough” group. “The first game is very important. We’re all looking forward to it, and morale is very high,” she noted.

With the countdown to kickoff nearing its end, the experienced midfielder promised fans a committed performance. “I’m ready to take any chance given, and I promise we’ll be ready for the first game. We’re looking forward to having a great match.”

The Copper Queens will open their WAFCON 2024 campaign on July 5 against Morocco in Rabat, hoping to build on their impressive semi-final run in the last edition.
