Government to Construct Ultra-Modern Multi-Sports Facility in Livingstone

The Government has announced plans to construct an ultra-modern multi-sports facility in Livingstone, aimed at boosting youth engagement, sports development, and positioning the city as a major hub for sports tourism.

The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, through its Permanent Secretary Mr. Kangwa Chileshe, confirmed the development during a courtesy call on Her Worship the Mayor of Livingstone, Ms. Constance Muleabai. The visit also included a tour of the 10-hectare site allocated by the Livingstone City Council for the project.

The state-of-the-art facility will feature a stadium, multipurpose sports courts, a youth training centre, and dedicated arts infrastructure, making it one of the most comprehensive youth and sports hubs in the country.

“This project is a game-changer,” said Mr. Chileshe. “It will nurture young talent, attract local and international events, and support Livingstone’s position as a destination for sports tourism. We are committed to investing in infrastructure that fuels youth development, job creation, and economic growth.”

The groundbreaking ceremony for the facility is scheduled for August 2025, with preparations already underway. The Ministry is spearheading the project in partnership with local authorities, the private sector, and cooperating partners.

Mayor Muleabai welcomed the initiative, praising the government for choosing Livingstone as the site for the facility. She noted that the development aligns with the city’s strategic vision to diversify its economic base by investing in youth and sports infrastructure.

“This investment will open new opportunities for our young people and help position Livingstone as not just a tourism capital, but a leading city for sports and arts in the region,” she said.
