Golden Boot Race Heats Up: Mulenga and Binga Close in on Chansa with Two Matches Left

Green Eagles striker Simon Mulenga and Napsa Stars striker Godfrey Binga have reignited their fighting spirit in the golden boot race for the 2024-25 MTN Super League, as they now trail leader Titus Chansa by one goal.

Chansa failed to find the back of the net in the Kitwe derby as Power Dynamos drew 1-1 against Nkana at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

FullTime exclusively looks at the leading goal scorers with two matches left to be played in the MTN Super League.

  1. Titus Chansa – Power Dynamos (12 goals)

The striker was not on target in a Week 32 match against Nkana as Power Dynamos came from behind to draw 1-all against rivals Nkana. Prince Mumba was brought down in the box in the dying minutes as Brian Masanyinga, who replaced Chansa at the start of the second half, stepped up to convert the resultant penalty kick. Can he score against Green Eagles and Nchanga Rangers’ defenses?

  1. Idriss Mbombo – Nkana (11 goals)

The DR Congo-born striker failed to find the back of the net for Nkana in the Kitwe derby. He is still in a strong position to push for the golden boot with Kalampa going into the last two matches against FC MUZA and Kabwe Warriors.

  1. Godfrey Binga – Napsa Stars (11 goals)

Binga makes a strong comeback in the golden boot race by scoring against his former club, Kabwe Warriors.

In the 93rd minute, Binga scored a header for Napsa Stars against Kabwe Warriors at the REIZ Arena and celebrated in front of his former fans, the Warriors, receiving a yellow card for removing his jersey.

His second goal for the Lusaka-based side indicates that Binga still has potential, especially as the Pensioners play against relegation-threatened Lumwana Radiants and Mutondo Stars in the last two matches of the season.

  1. Simon Mulenga – Green Eagles (11 goals)

Despite scoring the equalizer in the 31st minute for his team, who were behind 1-0 to Green Buffaloes at Independence Stadium in Choma, Mulenga missed a chance to match Chansa’s tally of 12 goals.

The striker missed a penalty in the 49th minute, the first penalty he has missed this season.

Although the MTN Super League title and Absa Cup are out of reach, Mulenga can still earn the golden boot by scoring at least two more goals in the final two matches against Power Dynamos and FC MUZA in the Musanza derby.

FC MUZA striker Andrew Phiri scored his ninth goal of the season, and Power Dynamos’ Brian Masanyinga advanced to eight goals, making notable movements on the top scorers’ board.
