FIFA President Pledges More Support for Zambian Football

Zambian football fans have every reason to be hopeful after FIFA President Gianni Infantino once again placed Zambia at the heart of global football conversations.

Following a high-level meeting with Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Keith Mweemba in Miami, Infantino reaffirmed FIFA’s commitment to helping grow the beautiful game in Zambia, a country he described as having “great passion for football,” referencing his visit in June 2024, when he witnessed firsthand the energy and love Zambians have for the sport.

For many fans back home, this renewed commitment feels like validation, that our love for football is not only seen but also respected at the highest levels. Infantino revealed that the discussions centered on increasing investment through the FIFA Forward Programme, focusing on infrastructure, technical development, and grassroots football.

He also praised FAZ’s active involvement in the Football For Schools programme, which blends football with education and life skills for children, a cause many Zambian supporters believe is key to nurturing the next generation of Chipolopolo stars.

“We discussed how FIFA Forward funds can be used to strengthen football in beautiful Zambia,” Infantino said. He went further to wish the Chipolopolo boys all the best as they continue their journey to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a message that will certainly resonate with every Zambian fan following the team’s campaign.

FAZ President Mweemba expressed deep appreciation for FIFA’s continued support, adding that the association is committed to building an inclusive and well-governed football ecosystem across all provinces.
