FAZ President Commits to Governance Reforms as FIFA Inducts New Executive Committee

The President of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), Mr. Keith Mweemba, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance, transparency, and institutional development during the official opening of a FIFA Executive Committee induction held at the InterContinental Hotel in Lusaka.
Addressing newly elected FAZ Executive Committee members and FIFA officials, Mr. Mweemba expressed deep appreciation to FIFA for facilitating the induction and for their continued support to Zambian football. He noted that the presence of FIFA highlighted the importance the global football governing body places on corporate governance within national associations.
“This induction by FIFA demonstrates how much value FIFA places on the ethos of corporate governance,” said Mr. Mweemba. “We are particularly excited that our executive committee reflects our societal diversity with every region represented.”
The FAZ president underscored the association’s decentralisation program, which has established FAZ offices in all ten provinces. While these offices currently operate from rented facilities, Mr. Mweemba outlined a long-term vision of devolved football management with permanent infrastructure and full staffing.
On infrastructure development, he announced that FIFA has committed $10 million under the FIFA Forward programme for the construction of a state-of-the-art Technical Centre in Chongwe. The new facility will house the FAZ headquarters, pitches, a hotel, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and conference rooms.
“We will commit to adhering to the high standards set by FIFA in the implementation of these projects,” he said. “We also commit to the highest standards of corporate governance anchored on accountability, fairness, and transparency.”
Mr. Mweemba closed his address by urging attendees to fully embrace the training and to remain united in managing the game. He reiterated his open-door policy and emphasized ongoing engagement with both past and present football stakeholders.
“To FIFA, you are welcome and please feel free to enjoy the full complement of Zambian hospitality!” he concluded.
The induction marks a significant step in aligning FAZ operations with international best practices as Zambia continues to raise its profile in global football.
