FAZ Launches 2025 National Division One Playoffs, Spotlighting Grassroots Football

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has officially launched the 2025 National Division One Playoffs, marking a significant step in promoting grassroots football and talent development under the Association’s decentralization policy.

Speaking at the launch event, FAZ Vice President Mutale Ng’andu expressed the executive committee’s strong commitment to nurturing provincial leagues as a foundation for national football growth.

“I am extremely delighted to be here to officially flag off the 2025 National Division One Playoffs,” said Ng’andu. “What we are witnessing today is one of the greatest fruits of the decentralization policy that has taken football back to the grassroots.”

Ng’andu highlighted the importance of the playoffs as a talent showcase and networking opportunity, with top scouts from elite clubs expected to monitor standout performers. “There are greater opportunities for players to make their big breaks and administrators to network on the development of the game,” he added.

The Vice President also acknowledged the financial challenges of hosting the tournament and reiterated FAZ’s commitment to supporting clubs despite the absence of a title sponsor. “We are doing our best to mitigate the cost through measures that have been communicated to the participating members,” he assured.

The official draw for both the men’s and women’s playoff categories has been concluded, setting up a thrilling week of round-robin matches that will run from 17–21 June 2025. Games will be held at Edwin Imboela Stadium and Lusaka Municipal Sports Club (Munis).

At the end of the group phase, the top two teams from each group will earn promotion to the 2025/26 FAZ National League.

This year’s playoffs promise intense competition as clubs from various corners of Zambia aim to secure their place in the country’s highly competitive second-tier football league.
