Fashion Sakala Provincial Cup Final Postponed Following Death of Former President Edgar Lungu

The much-anticipated final of the Fashion Sakala Provincial Cup, originally scheduled for 15th June 2025 in Chipata City, has been officially postponed in the wake of the passing of Zambia’s former President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
The announcement was made on Friday by the tournament’s founder and international football star, Fashion Sakala Junior, who expressed his profound sadness and solidarity with the Zambian people during this time of national mourning.
“It is with deep sadness and respect that I announce the postponement of the Fashion Sakala Provincial Cup Final,” Sakala stated in an official release. “As a mark of respect and solidarity with the entire nation, we have chosen to pause all tournament activities during this period of national mourning.”
In addition to the postponement of the final match, the charitable donation program planned as part of the event has also been put on hold. The initiative was set to provide support to elderly and disabled families in the Chipata area starting Monday. Organizers have assured beneficiaries and community leaders that new dates will be communicated once they are confirmed.
“We would like to sincerely apologize to the Chipata community and all donation beneficiaries,” Sakala added. “Please bear with us as we navigate these unforeseen circumstances with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
The Fashion Sakala Provincial Cup, a grassroots football tournament aimed at uplifting youth talent across Eastern Province, has grown in popularity and impact since its inception. This year’s final is expected to draw large crowds and significant community engagement.
No new dates have been announced, but the organizing team confirmed that updates will be shared in due course.
The nation continues to mourn the loss of former President Lungu, who led Zambia from 2015 to 2021 and remained an influential figure in the country’s political landscape.
