EXCLUSIVE: Zambian Defender Chitoshi Chinga Shares Experience in Zimbabwe PSL

Zambian defender Chitoshi Chinga, who is on the books of Zimbabwean giants CAPS United, has opened up about his transition from the MTN Super League to the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League.

The defender also highlighted key differences between the two competitions as he expressed his ambitions at his new club.

Speaking in an interview, the former Nkana FC centre-back praised the investment being made by clubs in Zimbabwe, stating that most teams, although individually owned, are making serious efforts to raise standards and grow their brands.

“The difference is I think teams here are investing more now and want to make it bigger… because most teams are individual teams but their owners are doing the best to make the teams the best,” Chinga said.

Chinga has settled in well at Makepekepe, where he has reunited with his former coach Ian Bakala, now head coach of CAPS United.

Since his arrival, Chinga has played a pivotal role in stabilizing the defense, and has been an ever present figure.

“The relationship with all my teammates is very good and that’s why it was easy to adapt, though the only challenge was the language — but it was easy to learn,” he added.

Looking ahead to next weekend’s clash against Dynamos in the Harare derby, Chinga has predicted a tough encounter.

“This season it’s just to make sure the team finishes in a respectable position and for next season, we have to fight and win something,” he said. “In the long run, I would love to be remembered as one of those players who achieved something big for the club — winning the league, the Chibuku Super Cup, or even playing in the CAF Champions League.”

“The match against Dynamos is a big game, it will be tough. We will prepare adequately, then I can talk more about it.”
