Copper Queens Coach Nora Häuptle Shares Positive Update Ahead of WAFCON 2025 Kickoff

Copper Queens head coach Nora Häuptle has expressed satisfaction with the team’s preparations in Morocco ahead of the 2025 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), saying the players have settled in well and are steadily building cohesion and focus.

Speaking to FAZ Media from the team’s pre-tournament camp in Casablanca, Häuptle confirmed that the full squad is now in camp after some players experienced travel delays through Dubai.

“We were happy to arrive a couple of days ago. The last players who had been stuck in transit arrived on Wednesday, so we now have a complete squad,” she said. “The mood is excellent — we’ve found a good balance between having fun and working hard. The coaches are very satisfied so far with the progress.”

With just eight days remaining until the Copper Queens kick off their Group A campaign, Häuptle emphasized the importance of team values and identity, noting that the technical bench and players had a productive session reflecting on how they want to present themselves both on and off the pitch.

“We had a very good session yesterday where we talked about our values, our culture, and how we want to be recognized. Besides football, it’s important how we act and express ourselves,” she said.

On the tactical front, Häuptle said the team has already begun tailoring its approach to the tournament opener against hosts Morocco.

“We’re already focusing on the opening game, adjusting the strategy, fine-tuning, and ensuring the players are physically ready. Morocco is a strong side, runners-up from the last tournament. But we want to hunt them, challenge them, and find a good strategy to match their strengths.”

Group A features Zambia, Morocco, Senegal, and DR Congo, a competitive mix that promises exciting fixtures. But Häuptle remains confident in the team’s preparation and mindset.

To the fans back home, the Swiss tactician delivered a heartfelt message:

“We hope as many as possible can come to Morocco to support us. And if not, be behind your televisions. We expect the whole nation to cheer for us, support us, and carry us through the group stage.”

The Copper Queens open their WAFCON 2024 campaign against Morocco on July 5.
