Copper Queens Captain Barbra Banda: “We Are In Good Shape And Ready For Nigeria”

Copper Queens captain Barbra Banda says the team is “in good shape” and mentally ready for Friday’s WAFCON 2024 quarterfinal against Nigeria.
Speaking at Thursday’s pre-match press conference, Banda shared the squad has recovered well from the group stage:
“On my side and on behalf of the team, we had a very good recovery from the group stage…We are back with good morale and looking forward to tomorrow’s game.”
She emphasized focus and confidence:
“We are not scared, but we respect them because we know the game is 90-plus, so we are going to speak on the pitch…We want to hunt it. Like the coaches say, we are so hungry for the game. You will be there to witness. The game is so open for everybody, and it’s a good game to watch.”
Banda urged her team to stay united:
“I am here with the team, encouraging my team to do what we love doing mostly…to unite ourselves and be honest with our principles and values…That’s my message to my team.”
On handling expectations as CAF Women’s African Footballer of the Year, Banda said:
“I am not having any pressure on me and it’s just the motivation that I have to work extra hard and more titles will come on the pitch.”
She also reflected on the pride of representing Zambia:
“This year, being here at WAFCON is very important to me and putting on this badge means a lot to me…for me to be here is a great opportunity and a great chance for me, and I have to show it off, like I need to show why I am here.”
Zambia faces Nigeria on Friday at 18h00 CAT at Larbi Zaouli Stadium, with a semifinal spot at stake.
