Barbra Banda Reacts to 1-1 Draw with Botswana: “We Still Have a Lot to Work On”

Zambia women’s national team captain Barbra Banda has remained optimistic despite a frustrating 1-1 draw against Botswana in today’s match.
Speaking after the game, Banda acknowledged it wasn’t the result they had hoped for, but emphasized the team’s determination to bounce back in upcoming fixtures.
“Not really what we expected, but it’s a game. We expected a tough game,” Banda said. “We were leading, unfortunately we conceded, and that’s where we need more focus, to work on our mistakes.”
The Copper Queens went ahead in the second half after a goalless first half but were unable to hold onto their lead as Botswana equalized, forcing a share of the spoils.
“Honestly it didn’t change much,” Banda commented when asked how the goal shifted the momentum. “In each and every game we have mistakes. We need to correct them and organize ourselves. Any breakdown, we need to know how to cover up for each other.”
Despite the draw, Banda found the back of the net once again, extending her remarkable scoring record to 58 goals in 64 appearances for the Copper Queens.
Zambia now turns its attention to a crucial next match against South Africa, a team Banda knows will come well-prepared.
“An important game against South Africa. I think they’ve watched our game, they’ll be analyzing us. But we’re trying to do something different, assessing each and every player, trying to make a powerhouse. We’re still up for the game,” she stated.
To fans who may be disappointed by the result, Banda had a message of encouragement.
“All I can say is they have to believe in us. We still work hard, we still have a lot to work on. But we ask our fans to keep on supporting us. The encouragement from them means a lot.”
The Copper Queens will face South Africa on Tuesday at 15:00hrs in what is shaping up to be a decisive fixture in the series.
