Augustine Mulenga Pays Emotional Tribute to Late Teammate Justin Shonga One Year On

Former Zambia international Augustine Kabaso Mulenga has penned a heartfelt tribute in memory of his late teammate and close friend Justin Shonga, marking exactly one year since the striker’s untimely passing.

In an emotional message shared on Saturday, Mulenga described Shonga not merely as a football colleague, but as “a brother”, with whom he shared unforgettable moments both at Orlando Pirates and with the Zambia national team.

“Today marks a full year since I lost not just a teammate or a roommate… but a brother,” wrote Mulenga. “From the national team to the club, we shared dreams, struggles, laughter, and memories that I’ll carry for life. You weren’t just close, you were family.”

Shonga, who passed away in 2024, was a vibrant figure in Zambian football. Known for his attacking flair and charismatic presence, he represented clubs in South Africa, Egypt, and Zambia, while earning caps for Chipolopolo with distinction.

Mulenga’s tribute captured the profound personal loss felt by those closest to Shonga, with the winger revealing that not a day goes by without remembering his late friend.

“I still hear your voice, your jokes, your advice… I still feel your presence,” Mulenga said. “Thank you for being the kind of friend that only comes once in a lifetime. Rest in peace, my brother. Forever in my heart.”
